Comelec monitors Cavite poll bets' compliance with campaign rules

MANILA – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) will be monitoring the compliance with campaign rules of the four candidates gunning the seat for the seventh legislative district of the province of Cavite.

"All four Election Officers (EOs) in the 7th District will be on standby to implement the rules on campaign material posting, common poster areas," Comelec spokesperson John Rex Laudiangco said in a statement Wednesday.

While no campaign violations have so far been reported, Laudiangco said one gun ban offense was reported by the Philippine National Police (PNP).

"The said person was arrested at checkpoint in Amadeo with the firearm inside the vehicle in plain view, and was promptly subjected to inquest investigation," Laudiangco said.

The special polls will be held on Feb. 25 aims to fill the post left by former Rep. Jesus Crispin Remulla who was named Justice Secretary by President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.

The elections will cover the municipalities of Amadeo, Indang and Tanza and the City of Trece Martires.

The candidates in the special polls are independent bets Jose Angelito Domingo Aguinaldo, Melencio Loyola De Sagun Jr., Michael Angelo Bautista Santos and Crispin Diego Diaz Remulla.

The campaign and election period for the polls started on Jan. 26. (PNA)
