NegOr town mayor’s brother killed, body dumped in street

DUMAGUETE CITY – Police have confirmed the body that was found early Monday morning in Valencia, Negros Oriental was that of the brother of Mayor Edgar Teves Jr., and son of former Mayor Edgar Teves Sr.

Valencia police identified the body as Don Paulo Zartega Teves, 42, married, and resident of Barangay South Poblacion of the same town.

Initial police investigation disclosed that at around 9 a.m., a body of a male person, wrapped in white cloth or a blanket and a plastic bag was found at Purok 3 in Barangay Calayugan in Valencia by two residents.

He was identified later by residents and some policemen who knew him.

No other details were given as further investigation is ongoing.

Col. Reynaldo Lizardo, acting provincial police director, said that a Scene of the Crime Operatives (SOCO) team was working on the case.

He said the victim reportedly has a gunshot wound behind his ear.

“I have given them instructions to dig deeper into the case, gather all vital information surrounding his death, and check security camera videos within a 500-meter radius at the place of discovery,” Lizardo said in mixed English and Filipino.

The motive of the incident has yet to be determined, he added. (PNA)
