Calabarzon tops list of voter applications for 2023 BSKE: Comelec

MANILA – Region 4-A (Calabarzon) recorded the highest number of voter applications for the Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections (BSKE) this year, the Commission on Elections (Comelec) said on Tuesday.

Citing its latest data, the poll body said 375,453 voter applications came from the region out of a total of 2,497,339 received during the registration period from Dec. 12, 2022 to Jan. 31 this year.

Out of the total figure, 1,264,278 are female and 1,233,061 are male.

The National Capital Region recorded the second highest number of applications processed at 350,101.

The figures in other regions are as follows:

-- Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR), 34,188;

-- Ilocos Region, 127, 507;

-- Cagayan Valley, 82,997;

-- Central Luzon, 277,680;

-- Mimaropa, 69,056;

-- Bicol, 130,089;

-- Western Visayas, 136,759;

-- Central Visayas, 175,854;

-- Eastern Visayas, 104,451;

-- Zamboanga Peninsula; 83,246;

-- Northern Mindanao, 114,649;

-- Davao Region, 131,164;

-- Soccsksargen, 130,560;

-- Caraga, 64,076;

-- Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao, 109,509

The numbers of new registrants include 673,766, aged 15 to 17 years old; 660,087 aged 18 to 30 years old, and 142,658 aged 31 years old and above.

Filipinos aged 15 to 17 years old may vote in the SK polls, 18 to 30 years old voters are allowed to participate in the village and youth polls, and 31 years old and above may join the barangay and national polls.

Among SK applicants, there were also 5,121 that applied for transfer from other city/municipality; while 2,841 applied for transfer within the same city/municipality.

For regular voter applicants, there were also 567,811 that applied for transfer from other city/municipality; while 154,081 applied for transfer within the same city/municipality.

Also, 95,006 that applied for reactivation, and 25,382 that applied for reactivation with correction of entries.

The Comelec added that they received 22,613 applications for transfer with reactivation; 7,533 that applied for transfer with reactivation and correction of entries; and 28,811 that are looking to transfer with correction of entries.

A total of 102,556 individuals applied for change of name/correction of entries; 126 for inclusion of record in the book of voters; and 44 for reinstatement of name in the list of voters.

The number of applications for transfer from being an overseas voter is 9,831.

The applications have to be approved by the Election Registration Boards. (PNA)
