ILOILO CITY – Residents of Iloilo City’s two districts have been told to brace for a 12-hour brownout due to the annual preventive maintenance to be carried out by the National Grid Corp. of the Philippines (NGCP) on Feb. 12.

Reagan Alcantara, the lead specialist of the public relations department of the NGCP, said they would be conducting preventive maintenance at their Iloilo substation, particularly the 100 megavolt amperes (MVA) transformer number 1.

“We will be checking and doing small repairs on our high voltage equipment,” affecting the City Proper and Molo districts, he said in an interview on Friday.

Alcantara added that it is part of their maintenance activities plotted out within the year and would also be carried out in other areas in Panay and the entire NGCP grid.

Other parts of Iloilo City and the whole of Iloilo province will not be affected by the Feb. 12 maintenance.

The interruption is set from 6 a.m. until 6 p.m. although the NGCP will attempt to finish their work ahead of the target period, Alcantara said.

“We would like to ask for the kind understanding and patience during this important activity of the NGCP. This is for us, so we will not have a major problem down the road later on. We are making this preventive maintenance to make sure that all our facilities and equipment are running smoothly,” he added.

Another preventive maintenance has been set on Feb. 19 for its 50 MVA transformer 2, which will entail another 12-hour power interruption in the areas of Jaro and Mandurriao districts.

Iloilo City distribution utility More Power and Electric Corp., in a statement, said it would also take advantage of the shutdown to commission its 30/36 MVA mobile substance in Molo to pave the way for its full rehabilitation. (PNA)
