CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro – The National Telecommunications Commission in Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan (NTC-Mimaropa) has facilitated 516 SIM (Subscriber Identity Module) registrants under the “Assistive SIM Registration” at a covered court in Looc town, Romblon province on Wednesday.

Engr. Milagros Bersamina, chief of NTC-Mimaropa's enforcement and operations division, said in an interview that the office of Regional Director Engr. Ronald Cabute said the “whole day Facilitated SIM Registration (FSR) program was also earlier held in Baco town, Oriental Mindoro province (242 assisted); Gasan town, Marinduque (269); Sablayan town, Occidental Mindoro (502); Naujan, Oriental Mindoro (204); and Alcantara town, Romblon (313)".

Bersamina said SIM registration takes place Thursday in Odiongan, Romblon, which is expected to bring to over 2,000 the total number of SIM registrants in Mimaropa.

The government-led assisted registration in identified geographically isolated and disadvantaged areas (GIDAs) aims to ensure that the implementation of the law is completed on time.

Republic Act 11934, the SIM Registration Act, mandates the registration of SIM cards among mobile device users, both prepaid and postpaid, to promote accountability and aid in law enforcement with an identification tool for resolving crimes involving the use of cellphones.

The NTC, Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) and Globe and Smart telecommunications have been extending help to those who have difficulties in registering their SIM cards due to various reasons such as geographical locations. (PNA)
