MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Commission on Elections (Comelec) recorded 189,785 voter registrants from the four provinces of Ilocos Region from Dec. 12, 2022 to Jan. 31 this year.

In a virtual forum on Friday hosted by the Philippine Information Agency, Comelec San Fernando City election officer, lawyer Jujee Deinla said Pangasinan has the highest number of registrants both in regular voters and the 15-17 age group or the Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) voters.

She said Pangasinan recorded 79,504 regular voters, followed by Ilocos Sur with 17,439, La Union with 17,093, and Ilocos Norte with 13,471.

For the 15 to 17 age group, Pangasinan recorded 37,368; Ilocos Sur with 9,739; La Union with 8,107; and Ilocos Norte with 7,064, she added.

"(The) Election registration board will meet on March 6. They will either approve or disapprove the applications received," Deinla said.

She said that once approved, the names of the voter registrants will be added to the database of registered voters.

Deinla said they have conducted several ways to reach the voters for the upcoming barangay and SK elections through onsite registrations in schools and malls all over the region.

Ilocos Region has a total of almost 3.6 million registered voters in the last election.

"The number is already good compared to the 2.9 million registered voters in the previous election," Deinla said.

The total and final list of registered voters in the region is expected to be available by March 30 this year. (PNA)
