MANILA – Immigration authorities on Wednesday arrested nine Vietnamese nationals for illegally working in three luxury spas located in the cities of Makati and Manila.

Bureau of Immigration (BI) Intelligence Division Chief Fortunato Manahan Jr. said the foreigners were arrested after being caught working in spas and performing aesthetic operations despite having no license to operate in the country.

“We found many machines and medications in their clinics, and they were performing operations without medical licenses,” he said in a statement Thursday.

Four of the Vietnamese nationals were found in a branch along Asuncion St. in Barangay Valenzuela while one was found in a spa along Dr. J.P. Rizal Avenue, both in Makati City.

Another four foreigners were located in a spa along Cong. A. Francisco St., in Malate, including the supposed owner, identified as Pham Thi Hai Yen, 26.

The arrest stemmed from the complaint against the Vietnamese nationals after they were reported to be physically hurting Filipino employees.

Commissioner Norman Tansingco said the foreign nationals face deportation charges for being undocumented and for violation of the conditions of their stay.

They are temporarily held at the BI’s facility in Bicutan, Taguig City pending deportation.

The BI added that the operations were conducted in coordination with the Southern Police District – Tactical Operation Center and the Manila Police District. (PNA)
