MANILA – An executive of online shopping and selling destination Lazada Philippines is optimistic about sustained sales growth this year with the continued reopening of the economy.

Kitty Calderon, Lazada Philippines head of marketing, said online sales have remained robust despite buyers now going out of their homes and having more options on where to source their needs.

She said consumers have been used to the online platform’s double-digit monthly sale events to save on expenses.

“The trend (of sales increase during the monthly sale events) is because it’s engrained in the habits and the motivation of the consumers,” she said in an interview on the sidelines of the media launch of Lazada’s 11th anniversary sale in Taguig City on Thursday.

Calderon declined to share the contribution of their monthly sales to the full-year figures, but said “there’s really a natural spike when it comes to how we see the orders.”

Aside from daily essentials, sales drivers are beauty and fashion with the return of onsite work and classes, she said.

The first quarter of the year normally registers slower economic growth and Calderon said this is true even for online shopping.

She said Christmas season sales surge due to gift giving but sales generated during other months of the year are boosted by the monthly sale events that provide discounts and other incentives. (PNA)
