LEGAZPI CITY – Despite the normal situation of public transport in the region, the Police Regional Office (PRO) 5 (Bicol) remains on heightened alert as part of its contingency plan to deter possible eventualities on the week-long transport strike that began on Monday.

In a statement issued to reporters on Tuesday, PRO-5 chief Brig. Gen. Westrimundo D. Obinque directed all unit commanders to strictly implement the Enhanced Managing Police Operations to widen the anti-criminality operations.

"Along with this is the maximum police presence in places of convergence, transport hubs, and other areas vulnerable to illegal activities in coordination with other concerned law enforcement agencies and local government units," Obinque said.

He said some 44 Reactionary Stand-by Support Force and 329 Civil Disturbance Management personnel are ready for dispatch in case of rallies or mass movements monitored.

Checkpoints and chokepoints were also established in different areas of the region.

Obinque also prepared its mobility resources to ferry passengers who might be stranded due to the strike.

"No significant incidents were observed. The transport movement of vehicles in Bicol remains undisturbed and unhampered. Hence, peace and security in the region are normal and manageable," he added. (PNA)
