NCRAA returns after 4-year hiatus due to pandemic

MANILA – The National Capital Region Athletic Association (NCRAA) returns from a four-year hiatus when its 29th season unfolds Friday at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig City.

A total of 15 schools are participating this season with centerpiece basketball firing off starting at 9:30 a.m.

Spearheading the charge would be defending champion Centro Escolar University, Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS), PATTS College of Aeronautics, De La Salle University-Dasmariñas, Asian Institute of Maritime Studies (AIMS), Immaculada Concepcion College (ICC), Lyceum of the Philippines University-Laguna, Polytechnic University of the Philippines, University of Luzon, Emilio Aguinaldo College-Cavite, St. Dominic College of Asia (SDCA), Bestlink College of the Philippines (BCP), Olivarez College, Pasig Catholic College, and National College of Business and Arts.

“We hope to continue providing venues for athletes who want to become national team players in the future,” said NCRAA General Manager Buddy Encarnado in a news release on Thursday.

PATTS and PMMS will raise the curtain at 9:30 a.m., followed by a simple opening ceremony at 11:30 a.m. that would be graced by league president Benjamin Hernandez, Jr.

Action resumes at 2 p.m. pitting SDCA against AIMS, followed by ICC versus BCP at 4 p.m.

Aside from basketball, other sports to be contested this season are volleyball, beach volleyball, esports and chess. (PNA)
