Anti-illegal logging drive nets P1.3-M hot logs in Caraga

BUTUAN CITY—The Police Regional Office in the Caraga Region (PRO-13) has confiscated more than PHP1.3 million worth of hot logs during its intensified anti-illegal logging operations from January until the early part of March this year.

Data provided by the PRO-13 information office showed a total of 48 anti-illegal logging operations were conducted in the region during the past two months.

These operations have resulted in the confiscation of 33,881 board feet of illegally-gathered forest products and lumbers worth over PHP1.3 million.

At least 41 individuals involved in illegal logging activities were also arrested during the period, the data showed.

The anti-illegal logging operation on Wednesday in Kitcharao town, Agusan del Norte province led to the confiscation of 518 pieces of assorted cuts of lauan trees (Shorea negrosensis) amounting to PHP114,485.

Meanwhile, the Surigao del Norte Police Provincial Office (SDNPPO) said five anti-logging operations conducted in the province from January to March this year resulted in the arrest of five persons and the confiscation of assorted hot logs worth PHP55,470.

In 2022, the SDNPPO said 42 forest protection drives resulted in the arrest of 35 individuals and the confiscation of 18,176 board feet of assorted hot logs worth PHP700,662.

“I commend our troops on the ground for the continued campaigns to protect and conserve our natural resources in the Caraga Region,” Labra said in a statement Friday. (PNA)
