CEBU CITY – The Department of Social Welfare and Development in Central Visayas (DSWD-7) on Tuesday said it has extended over PHP500,000 in financial assistance to the survivors and victims of the recent shooting incident in Barangay San Isidro in Pamplona town, Negros Oriental province.

DSWD-7 regional director Shalaine Marie Lucero said 21 survivors and eight bereaved families of the shooting incident that resulted in the death of Governor Roel Degamo and eight others have received financial assistance.

The agency, she said, has extended PHP250,000 in cash assistance for other support services, PHP90,000 for food assistance, another PHP80,000 for burial assistance, and PHP53,750 for medical assistance.

She said they also provided family food packs amounting to PHP28,474 and PHP11,000 for educational assistance.

The 21 survivors are still recuperating in various hospitals while an affected individual is showing symptoms of trauma.

Lucero said the victims were verified by their respective local government units and the DSWD-7 field office through the Social Welfare and Development (SWAD) Team in Negros Oriental.

“The SWAD team has conducted intake interviews and provided initial psychological first aid to all the bereaved families and victim-survivors. They expressed that the department's presence has somehow relieved them of the pain caused by the tragic incident,” she said. (PNA)
