MANILA – A 20-year-old man posing as a police officer was arrested in Makati City, Southern Police District (SPD) Director, Brig. Gen. Kirby John Kraft said on Monday.

In a report, Kraft said the suspect Lenard Atienza was arrested around 8:10 p.m. Sunday along East St., Ayala Center in Barangay San Lorenzo for usurpation of authority and illegal use of uniform and insignia under the Revised Penal Code.

According to the report, 43-year-old security guard Dean Mark Ayes was at his post in the area when a taxi driver sought his assistance when a male passenger refused to pay his fare and even tried to ask money from the driver.

The two eventually accosted the suspect who was wearing a police athletic uniform and police field cap.

Ayes then asked the suspect for his PNP ID but he could not present any, prompting him to take the suspect to the Makati City Police Ayala Police Substation.

Kraft said the case was referred to Investigation and Detective Management Section for further investigation and disposition. (PNA)
