MANILA – Tropical Depression (TD) Amang continues to bring rains across Luzon while Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 1 remains hoisted over some areas in the island, the weather bureau said Thursday.
In its 8 a.m. bulletin, the bureau said Amang packs maximum sustained winds of 45 kph near the center and gustiness of up to 55 kph, and was last tracked over the coastal waters of Jomalig, Quezon.
Rains with gusty winds will be experienced over Camarines Norte, Camarines Sur, Laguna, Quezon, Rizal, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija and Aurora.
Minimal to minor threat to lives and properties are possible in these areas due to strong winds, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) said.
Scattered rain showers and thunderstorms are forecast in Metro Manila, the rest of Central Luzon, the rest of Calabarzon, Isabela, Quirino, Nueva Vizcaya, La Union, Pangasinan, Benguet, Oriental Mindoro, Occidental Mindoro, and Marinduque.
Flooding or landslides are possible due to moderate to heavy with at times intense rains.
TCWS No. 1 has been hoisted over the northern and western portions of Camarines Norte (Santa Elena, Capalonga, Paracale, Jose Panganiban, Vinzons), the southern portion of Aurora (Dingalan, San Luis) and the northern and eastern portions of Quezon (Calauag, Infanta, Plaridel, Quezon, Alabat, Sampaloc, Mauban, General Nakar, Perez, Gumaca, Atimonan, Real, Lopez) including Polillo Islands. Strong breeze to near gale strength winds will prevail in these areas.
Meanwhile, moderate to rough seas may be experienced over the western seaboards of Northern Luzon, and the northern and eastern seaboards of Luzon. Mariners of small seacraft are advised to take precautionary measures when venturing to the sea.
PAGASA expects Amang to weaken into a low pressure area within 12 hours as the TD moves towards Polillo Islands and northern mainland Quezon. (PNA)
