MANILA – The Philippine National Police (PNP) on Thursday announced that it has activated two police provincial offices (PPOs) in the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) following a plebiscite which allowed the creation of Maguindanao del Sur and Maguindanao del Norte.

PNP chief Gen. Rodolfo Azurin Jr. said the creation of the Maguindanao del Sur PPO and the Maguindanao del Norte was approved by the National Police Commission (Napolcom) based on the ratification of Republic Act 11550 through a plebiscite in September last year.

"The activation of these two new PPOs manifest enduring progress in the Bangsamoro region. The challenge, therefore, is for the new PPOs and their entire teams to perform their mandate with discipline, integrity, and professionalism," he added.

Azurin said the creation of the two new provinces could lead to socio-economic development for the two new provinces.

Maguindanao del Sur PPO would be composed of 24 municipal police stations and would be based at Camp Datu Akilan Ampatuan in the capital town of Shariff Aguak. Its police provincial director is Col. Roel R. Sermese.

On the other hand, the Maguindanao Del Norte PPO is temporarily situated at Camp Salipada K Pendatun in Parang and will be composed of 12 municipal police stations.

Col. James Gulmatico was named as officer-in-charge of the Maguindano del Norte PPO. (PNA)
