ZAMBOANGA CITY – The Department of Labor and Employment in the Zamboanga Peninsula (DOLE-9) posted at least 3,909 job vacancies for its Labor Day job fair in this city.

Albert Gutib, DOLE-9 director, said Thursday that the vacant jobs are open for individuals seeking local and overseas employment, who may avail of the opportunities during the May 1 job fair in the KCC Mall de Zamboanga here.

Thirty-four employers, four of which are overseas placement agencies, will participate in the 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. activity.

Gutib said the job fair aims to match unemployed citizens with employment opportunities suitable to their qualifications.

“We released the list of vacancies in advance so that applicants may now have an idea of what to apply for and prepare themselves accordingly,” Gutib said.

“It is also a blended activity wherein jobseekers are advised to pre-register online as we are still expecting more vacancies to pour in within the week. Rest assured, these will be posted on our website and Facebook page,” he added.

After registering and applying online, he said applicants must present the Quick Response (QR) code in the registration area for validation on the day of the job fair.

Once verified, they will be admitted to the job fair area for the interview.

“Applicants are strongly advised to bring at least three application letters and bio-data, so they may apply to various employers and increase their chances of being hired on the spot,” Gutib said.

The fair will also feature a one-stop-shop service of various government agencies to cater to clients’ inquiries and requests for assistance.

Gutib said they have partnered with the Department of Trade and Industry and the Department of Agriculture to establish the the Kadiwa ng Pangulo Para sa Manggagawa to help workers access commodities at lower prices.

At least 25 Kadiwa beneficiaries will showcase their farm produce at the Zamboanga Peninsula Polytechnic State University in Barangay Baliwasan.

In addition, DOLE-9 will also distribute government assistance such as the release of the Government Internship Program stipend, Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers’ payout, and turnover of livelihood starter kits.

This year’s Labor Day celebration is anchored on the theme “Pabahay, Bilihing Abot-Presyo, Benepisyo ng Matatag na Trabaho para sa Mangagawang Pilipino.” (PNA)
