Classes suspended in Nueva Ecija due to brownout

CABANATUAN CITY, Nueva Ecija – Classes were suspended in this city and other parts of the province due to a massive 12-hour brownout brought on by maintenance activities of the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) on Thursday.

In Division Memorandum No. 100 s. 2023, signed by Enrique Angeles, officer-in-charge of Cabanatuan City Schools Division,  "classes and office work were suspended due to the conduct of maintenance activities by the NGCP.

The memorandum was pursuant to DepEd Order No. 37 s of 2022 entitled to guidelines regarding the suspension of classes.

"School heads are advised to conduct modular distance learning to ensure that learning competencies are still met," the memorandum reads.

The power outage brought by NGCP activities started at 6 a.m. to last up to 6 p.m., according to an announcement from power distributor Cabanatuan Electric Corp. (Celcor).

The same announcement was posted by Nueva Electric Cooperative 1 (NEECO 1).

The power cooperative said the scheduled NGCP activities that involved the replacement of wood poles along Cabanatuan to Bulualto Line, affect Gapan City and the municipalities of  Cabiao, San Isidro,  Jaen, San Antonio as well as Barangay Batitang, Zaragoza and Barangay Tagulod, Candaba, Pampanga

The Wesleyan University-Philippines (WU-P) in Cabanatuan City also suspended both in-person and online classes due to the power outage. (PNA)
