LAOAG CITY -- Residents in some parts of Ilocos Sur province on Friday felt a mild shaking of the ground at 10:38 a.m., state seismologists said.

Located at four kilometers southwest of San Emilio in Ilocos Sur, the 3.3-magnitude earthquake was tectonic in origin with a depth of one kilometer, according to the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology.

Intensity IV was recorded in Vigan City. City hall and provincial government employees including visitors with ongoing transactions at the Provincial Capitol immediately rushed out of the building for their safety, according to the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office.

A team from the PDRRMO only allowed them to return to the building about 30 minutes after the Provincial Engineering team has assured the building was safe.

No aftershocks and damage are expected due to the tremor, authorities said. (PNA)
