PH grouped with Australia, Vietnam, Bangladesh in U17 Asian Cup

MANILA – The Philippines will be up against Australia, Bangladesh and Vietnam in Group B following the draw ceremony for Round 2 of the Asian Football Confederation (AFC) U17 Women's Asian Cup Indonesia 2024 qualifiers on Thursday at the AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

In Group A are 2009 champion Korea, Thailand, Iran and India.

The Round 2 qualifying tournament will take place from Sept. 16-24, 2023 in a venue to be announced later.

Teams will play in a single round-robin format with the winner and runner-up from each group advancing to the finals scheduled from April 7 to 24, 2024.

They will join 2019 AFC U16 Women’s Championship champion Japan, DPR Korea, China and host Indonesia.

Meanwhile, the official draw for the 2024 Paris Olympics Asian Qualifiers Round 2 was concluded with 12 teams divided into three groups.

The Philippines was drawn alongside Chinese Taipei, Iran and host Australia in Group A.

Top seed and Group B host China, the 2022 Asian Cup champion, is with Republic of Korea, Thailand and DPR Korea, while in Group C are Japan, Vietnam, host Uzbekistan and India.

Round 2 will be held from Oct. 23 to Nov. 1, with four teams – the three group winners and the best-ranked runners-up – advancing to Round 3 where they will play two pairs of home and away matches from Feb. 24 and 28, 2024.

The winners will get the two slots available for Asia in the Olympics. (PNA)
