MANILA – The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in Pasig City has started to prepare for disaster and emergency response to ensure the safety and protection of residents with the expected onset of the rainy season early June.
Pasig City Fire Marshal Supt. Elaine Baylon-Evangelista said they already laid out plans to make sure that operational readiness is in place during typhoons and other calamities.
Evangelista said BFP personnel and equipment, firetrucks and ambulance visibility were ready at all times to respond in any emergency.
Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) weather specialist Benison Estareja, in a weather forecast earlier said the rainy season may be declared at the end of May or early June.
Baylon said with the efforts of the “Bumbero ng Barangay,” meetings were held to evaluate and identify areas susceptible to flooding, inspected electrical posts, implemented tree-trimming operations and declogging of canals and drainage systems.
Resident were advised by the BFP - Pasig to remain alert and cautious at all times.
They were also told to follow announcements and advice from authorities and urged to take proactive measures to brace for the storm, mass flooding or possible evacuations.
The BFP-Pasig has close coordination with different agencies in disseminating updates and vital information concerning typhoons to ensure the safety of the community and property.
"Our top priority is the safety and well-being of Pasig City residents. By working together with barangay officials and different agencies, our aim is to fortify our readiness, this is in line with the Bureau’s mission to save lives and properties," Evangelista said.
