LEGAZPI CITY – The Department of Education in Bicol (DepEd-5) is expecting about 540,727 learners to enroll in Kindergarten, Grades 1, 7 and 11 for School Year (SY) 2023-2024.

In an interview on Thursday, DepEd-5 information office chief Mayflor Marie Jumamil said more than 222,426 have already enrolled as of June 1.

"The early registration will be until June 10. We hope to achieve the target but just in case they cannot do it until June 10, pwede pa naman humabol ang iba kahit before the opening of classes (they can still register until before the opening of classes)," Jumamil said.

She said the campaign is conducted every year to allow DepEd to make the necessary preparations and adjustments of plans for the incoming school year.

DepEd-5 data showed that 222,426 learners have preregistered, composed of 47,747 for Kindergarten; 77,357 for Grade 1; 44,831 for Grade 7 and 52,491 for Grade 11.

Jumamil also said that DepEd-5 congratulates all 13 school division offices in the region for achieving 100 percent participation in the early registration.

"Based on our data, all 3,943 public elementary and secondary schools in Bicol region have submitted their early registered enrollees. Face-to-face enrollment is encouraged but schools are allowed to also adopt any other possible means of enrollment," she said.

Jumamil said they are still waiting for the DepEd order from the central office for the SY 2023-2024 opening.

Meanwhile, DepEd-5 is also set to conduct the Regional Stakeholders Appreciation: Sharing of Best Partnership Initiatives and Awarding Ceremonies on June 7, at Sorsogon City Convention Center, Sorsogon City.

In a statement, the agency's regional director, Gilbert Sadsad, said the event aims to recognize and honor the exceptional contributions of various education partners who have been actively supporting schools in the key programs of DepEd-5.

Sadsad said the awardees are their active education partners such as the local government units (LGUs), private sector stakeholders, non-government organizations, and other esteemed partners who have consistently demonstrated outstanding dedication and support to DepEd Bicol's programs, projects, and initiatives.

“This endeavor will promote collaboration, innovation, and the adoption of effective strategies in the education sector. By disseminating these valuable insights, the event aims to inspire and encourage other stakeholders to forge similar partnerships that benefit learners,” Sadsad said. (PNA)
