MANILA – The Archdiocese of Lipa is establishing six new parishes under its jurisdiction

According to Archbishop Gilbert Garcera, the new parishes will be created in Barangay Laiya in San Juan town; Barangay Dacanlao in Calaca City; Barangay Pinagbayanan in Taysan; Barangay Anilao in Mabini; Barangay Manghinao in Bauan; and Barangay Natunuan in San Jose.

The Catholic prelate noted that the creation of new parishes is “in response to the pastoral needs of the growing population in the archdiocese”, which covers the whole province of Batangas.

In a recent circular, the head of the archdiocese has already instructed all parish priests in the said areas, to start the necessary preparations for the creation of the new parishes.

Garcera also tasked them to educate the faithful through catechesis and evangelization sessions until a priest-in-charge is appointed.

It was in 1910 when Lipa was created as a diocese and was elevated to its present status in 1972.

Under the archdiocese are the suffragan provinces of Boac, Gumaca, Lucena, and the Prelature of Infanta.

It is currently comprised of 66 parishes and is divided into 14 vicariates. (PNA)
