MANILA – The number of families affected by the unrest of Mayon Volcano has so far reached 3,876, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Tuesday.

This is equivalent to 13,811 persons residing in 21 barangays in the Bicol Region.

Of this number, 3,701 families or 13,179 individuals are being sheltered in 21 evacuation while the remainder are being outside or seeking shelter with relatives and friends.

The NDRRMC also added that these figures are subject to change due to ongoing validation.

Some PHP25.6 million worth of assistance were also provided to the Bicol Region consisting of "dinner, distilled water in six liter bottles, family food packs, family tents, hot meals, hygiene kits, modular tents, rice, sleeping kits," and other items.

As this developed, the Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) thanked the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for the more than 50 tons of humanitarian aid it has provided for families affected by Mayon Volcano's unrest.

DILG Secretary Benjamin "Benhur" Abalos Jr. extended President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr.'s gratitude to the UAE government for their help.

“The President is very happy and thankful to the royal family of UAE, its President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Prime Minister Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Deputy Prime Minister Mansour bin Zayed Al Nahyan, its Interior Minister Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE Ambassador to the Philippines Mohamed Obaid Salem Alqataam Alzaabi, and all the people of UAE for this donation – the very first international aid that we received for the victims of Mayon volcano unrest,” he added.
