MANILA – The Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) on Wednesday denied allegations of corruption due to alleged "coddling” of transport network vehicle services (TNVS) company Grab.

In a statement, LTFRB Chair Teofilo Guadiz III said the fine issued against Grab back in 2018 for overcharging its customers has already been collected.

“The claim that Grab has not yet paid the PHP10 million fine has no iota of truth and is absolutely preposterous. We already collected the fine, and we have a copy of the receipt to prove it,” Guadiz said.

He also denied the allegation that LTFRB officials are “liable for corruption” for being lenient towards Grab.

“There is absolutely no truth to the claim that the LTFRB is a coddler of wrongdoing,” he said.

The LTFRB, he said, is strict with both local and international transportation companies and does not favor the Singapore-based company.

“Throughout the years, the agency has remained strict in imposing public land transportation laws and other policies and regulations and does not favor anyone,” he said.

The allegations were made in an opinion story written by veteran columnist Jarius Bondoc. (PNA)
