LEGAZPI CITY – At least 642 handicraft weavers from two towns in Sorsogon received a sack of rice each from the provincial government under its 7K Kabuhayan program.

In a message on Wednesday, Salvador Mendoza, Sorsogon provincial information officer, said the beneficiaries were from Bulusan and Sta. Magdalena town

"As promised by our Governor Jose Edwin Hamor, the beneficiaries will receive a sack of rice every after three months. The allocated fund for the rice distribution assistance was from the provincial government," Mendoza said.

He said the assistance provided is one way of showing appreciation and uplifting the socio-economic status of the weavers.

"This assistance from the provincial government brought immense joy and appreciation to the weavers. According to them, for the first time they felt the recognition and appreciation of Governor Hamor for their contribution to the province," the Sorsogon provincial information office said in a social media post.

Mendoza added that the assistance is the provincial government's way of giving back to the weavers for their hard work and for continuing the traditional practices in Sorsogon. (PNA)
