BATANGAS CITY – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) has reiterated its appeal to qualified donors, especially young and healthy individuals, to participate in any of several ongoing blood-letting drives to allow the province to stock up on emergency blood supply.

Arlene Brucal, voluntary blood services program manager of the PHO, said on Friday that the sustainable blood supply is to meet the needs of Batangas and nearby provinces.

"The need for blood does not stop. More and more people need blood everyday not only in our hospitals in Batangas but worldwide. Our blood service facilities will continuously conduct mass blood donation activities in different municipalities, companies and schools to address the need for blood," Brucal told the Philippine News Agency (PNA) in an interview.

She said the youth play an important role in the campaign as “potential partners in blood donation because they are idealistic and enthusiastic.”

"As young as 18, they can start donating so that they can help more people and we must emphasize the benefit of donating blood," Brucal said.

Meanwhile, there were 150 donors in the bloodletting drive in the town of Taysan on Thursday.

“Almost all blood donation activities this month were done in celebration of the World Blood Donor Day. The blood donation activities of our blood service facilities are almost every day, there are the towns of Cuenca, Rosario, San Juan, Balayan, and various barangays here in Batangas City including weekends,” Brucal added.

It was revealed that in the month-long celebration, a total of 264 units of blood were already collected in the City of Sto. Tomas, 150 units in Lipa City and 131 units of blood during the mass blood donation in Batangas City. (PNA)
