TACLOBAN CITY - The Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) launched on Friday the marketing brand "Layag Leyte" to further help micro small and medium entrepreneurs (MSMEs) grow.

"Layag", a local term which means to sail, embodies the objective of DTI Leyte to "usher its assisted enterprises to new and bigger markets," said DTI Leyte provincial director Araceli Larraga.

"It is high time to introduce, use legally, and establish a strong brand identity which can reflect the essence, values and objectives of its provincial marketing events such as trade fairs, market matching activities, and buying missions," Larraga said during its soft launch.

The brand logo is blue and consists of a wave beneath "Layag" word, a rainbow, and baybayin (a writing system native to the Philippines) text.

The blue color, according to the DTI official, is an expression of the unified commitment of the DTI to its MSMEs in enabling businesses.

The wave beneath layag symbolizes the movement of our MSMEs to greater heights, with the DTI as its engine for growth.

"The colors indicate inclusivity between men and women and non-binary genders as the brand promises a safe environment for all. Lastly, the baybayin, which also reads as layag, emphasizes our tribute to our Filipino roots and culture," Larraga added.

The launch was held alongside the opening of Fiesta Bonanza Trade Expo at the Robinsons Place here and participated by 57 MSMEs from Leyte province.

The DTI-assisted MSMEs in Leyte showcase their products for five days ahead of the city’s fiesta ranging from processed food and delicacies to beautifully handcrafted products. Key officials from the DTI and local government led the opening.

Inspired by higher sales in the past marketing event, the trade department is eyeing PHP2.5 million in sales from the five-day fair. DTI has been holding market fairs to showcase new and improved products through a special setting. (PNA)
