MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has ended its search and rescue (SAR) operations for the six missing fisherfolk aboard fishing boat Genesis 2 that sank off Baganga, Davao Oriental a week ago.

In its latest update, PCG District Southeastern Mindanao announced its decision to terminate the SAR operation, with the termination order pending the signature of the PCG Commandant, Admiral Artemio Abu.

“However, the said PCG district will continue to alert transiting vessels for possible sightings of the six missing crew,” the PCG said.

During its investigation, the rescued crew said the missing six persons might have been trapped inside the boat when it sank 182 nautical miles off Baganga on June 22.

To date, 14 of the 23 crew members were rescued while three bodies have been recovered.

The survivors were rescued by nearby fishing vessels and were taken to Barangay Calumpang in General Santos City aboard fishing boat Ryan Romuald 88 on Sunday. (PNA)
