MANILA – The government's assistance to residents in the Bicol Region affected by the continued unrest of the Mayon Volcano has so far reached PHP131.2 million, the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) said on Monday.

In its update, the NDRRMC said this is higher than the PHP105 million reported on June 28.

Assistance provided so far include distilled water in six-liter bottles, drums, family food packs, family kits, family tents, financial and fuel aid, hog grower feeds, hygiene kits, laminated sacks, "malongs", modular tents, nets, nylon ropes, rice and tarpaulins.

As of this time, the number of families affected was placed at 11,045 or equivalent to 42,815 persons residing in 26 barangays.

Of this number, 5,775 families or 20,134 individuals are sheltering in 28 evacuation centers while 408 or 1,427 persons are being aided outside.

These numbers are subject to change as validation is constantly ongoing.

Earlier, the Office of Civil Defense said affected families were a combination of those displaced and those not needing evacuation. (PNA)
