SANTA CRUZ, Laguna – To strengthen the campaign for proper nutrition, the provincial government of Laguna, through its Provincial Nutrition Action Office, launched the celebration of the 49th Nutrition Month on Monday.

In an interview, Teresita Ramos, the Provincial Nutrition Action Officer, said the celebration is in accordance with Presidential Decree 491 or the Nutrition Act of the Philippines.

“It is important to pay attention to nutrition in the life of every Filipino,” Ramos told the Philippine News Agency.

According to Ramos, a theme is provided every year “from which various important nutrition facts are focused to guide our countrymen regarding proper nutrition.”

Meanwhile, this year’s Nutrition Month theme is "Making Healthy Diet Affordable For All.”

As part of the celebration, Ramos said there will be a nutrition teleconference to be held this week as well as a trip to the Laguna Human Milk Bank.

The milk bank in UP Los Baños was launched in December 2022 at the initiative of 2nd District Representative Ruth Mariano-Hernandez to care for and support breastfeeding mothers and babies.

Ramos assured that her office works together with municipalities and barangays to implement their local nutrition programs.

Governor Ramil Hernandez said in a social media post that “the health of every Lagunense is a priority.”

In the 1st Quarter Report of the Provincial Health Office, the provincial government was able to provide oral health services to 1,845 individuals including inmates, students and women with disabilities.

In addition, the Resbakuna Caravan also continues where 875 individuals aged five years old and above received vaccine against Covid-19 in the town of Santa Cruz and the city of Calamba.

The Department of Health’s Chikiting Ligtas campaign has been successfully implemented in the province where 83.35 percent or 227,690 of children aged nine months to five years old have been vaccinated with the measles-rubella vaccine. (PNA)
