MANILA – Data cloud company Snowflake said companies in the Philippines are now more open to using cloud-computing technology, noting the rising demand for cloud-based storage and analytics services.

“Customers are more eager to adopt cloud. They are also becoming more ‘cloud-first,’ I will say, where they are making a decision that workloads should be deployed on top first,” Snowflake senior regional vice president for ASEAN and India Sanjay Deshmukh said in a virtual briefing Thursday.

Deshmukh added that with this appetite from Philippine-based firms for Data-as-a-Service (DaaS), or the use of cloud technology to deliver data storage, integration, processing, and analytics, they see more expansion opportunities in the country.

In 2022, Globe Telecom tapped the Montana-based company as its data cloud partner to improve the company’s decision-making and become more responsive to the digital needs of Filipino consumers by using data analytics.

Snowflake regional director for ASEAN Satchit Joglekar added that the government’s push for companies to innovate and use new technologies makes the Philippines an attractive market for tech firms offering DaaS.

“Regulators are also encouraging the use of cloud technologies, of course in a secure and govern way, and we are seeing customers across industries… who are adopting Snowflake data cloud capability across financial services across telecommunications, energy companies, as well as some of the largest conglomerates in the Philippines,” Joglekar said.

He added that Philippine companies are seeing the benefits of using DaaS amid the influx of data to improve their services to their customers. (PNA)
