DAVAO CITY – The Office of the Vice President's Disaster Operations Center (DOC), through the Davao Satellite Office, distributed relief assistance to families displaced by a fire that hit Isla Verde in Barangay 23-C here.

In a statement Wednesday, the OVP-DOC said a total of 109 families seeking temporary shelter at the Mini-Forest covered court were given OVP relief bags on July 11.

The relief bags contain a sleeping mat, mosquito net, blanket, collapsible water container, hygiene items, rubber slippers, face masks, sanitary napkins, and alcohol.

The OVP-DOC thanked the Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council of Barangay 23-C, the Davao City Police Office, and the Davao City Social Welfare and Development Office for the help extended during the distribution.

The Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) said the July 4 conflagration razed 56 houses and claimed the life of a young girl.

According to a report from the Sta Ana Police Station, the victim was asleep when the fire broke out at about 11:55 pm.

The victim was rushed to the Southern Philippines Medical Center but died of cardiopulmonary arrest on the morning of July 5. (PNA)
