CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – The City Development Council (CDC) here on Thursday approved the PHP16.8-billion investment program for the year 2024.

In a statement Friday, Councilor Yan Lam Lim, concurrent city president of the Association of the Barangay Councils, said the CDC’s move forms part of the agenda of Mayor Rolando Uy who called for multi-sectoral support for the Annual Investment Program (AIP).

Of the PHP16.8 billion AIP, Lim said about PHP8 billion will go to economic development services, PHP7.26 billion to social development services and PHP3.5 billion to general public services.

The 2024 AIP was the result of the series of consultations and workshops led by the City Planning and Development Office (CPDO) with the city hall departments to formulate their programs, projects, and activities.

Sewage treatment

Meanwhile, a proposed PHP3.4 billion sewage treatment plant that is projected to be initially operational in four years was also approved by the council.

"One of these services includes the setting up of our sewage treatment plant," Uy said.

City Local Environment and Natural Resources Office (CLENRO) manager Armen Cuenca said the project will be divided into two phases with half of the funding provided by the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) and the other by the city government.

"By 2024, construction will start and by 2027, phase one of the sewage treatment plant will be (operational)," he said.

The second phase of the sewage treatment plant will be operational by either 2032 or 2033, which will cost PHP1.354 billion and will have a capacity of 35 million liters per day. (With a report from Stephen Capillas/PNA)
