MANILA – Over 1,600 relief packs were distributed to families affected by flooding brought about by Tropical Storm Dodong in the towns of Masinloc and Palauig in Zambales province during the weekend.
To facilitate the distribution of the relief packs, Speaker Speaker Martin Romualdez linked up with the office of Zambales 2nd District Rep. Doris Maniquiz to assist and support the volunteers in the delivery of the aid.
Aside from Romualdez, the office of Tingog Party-list Reps. Yedda Marie Romualdez and Jude Acidre jointly provided the needed relief packs.
At least 441 relief packs were distributed to six barangays in Masinloc, while 1,217 were given to eight barangays in Palauig.
The Speaker said they will also respond to the needs of those affected by Dodong in other areas.
“There is practically no time to lose during disasters like typhoons and floods. We will do our best to help respond to your needs as we monitor the situation with other authorities. This assurance is not only for the people in Zambales but also for Filipinos affected by Dodong in other areas," he said in a press statement on Sunday.
Also on Sunday, the OFW Party-list, in cooperation with the Chinese General Hospital and Medical Center, held its first medical mission dubbed “Bida and Kalusugan: Medical Mission for OFWs and Their Families” at Ayala Malls Manila Bay in Parañaque City.
Over 600 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) and their family members availed of free medical check-up, dental services, medicines, eyeglasses and other giveaways.
Fifty children were checked by volunteer pediatricians and were given free medicines.
OFW Party-List Rep. Marissa Magsino said OFWs, especially former OFWs, often put off health checkups and taking medications due to scarcity of funds, thus leading to poor and even worsening health conditions.
"This is a simple way of taking care of and giving back to our OFWs whose diligent work abroad work not only benefit their families, but also the economy,” Magsino said in a news release.
Pag-IBIG Fund also offered services, such as membership application and updating and issuance of loyalty cards, while the Department of Health provided support to the medical mission. (PNA)
