SAN JOSE DE BUENAVISTA, Antique – Some 1,556 parents from various municipalities of Antique have received over PHP7 million as wages under an emergency employment program just in time for them to have money to defray the graduation expenses of their children.

The emergency employment program under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged /Displaced Workers (TUPAD) of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) was implemented in partnership with the Philippine Councilors League (PCL)  Antique chapter this month.

“Our request was approved and implemented on July 3 to 13 in time for the TUPAD beneficiaries to be able to earn wages to meet the needs of their graduating children,” said PCL Antique president Plaridel Sanchez IV in an interview on Thursday.

Sanchez said the available slots were distributed among PCL members in the province’s 18 municipalities that identified parent-beneficiaries needing emergency employment.

They were tasked to clean their surroundings, including school premises in preparation for their graduation or moving up ceremonies.

Others engaged in vegetable gardening, and clean-up along their national highway and creek.

“The TUPAD beneficiaries for their 10-day work were able to receive PHP4,500 and half of the amount was released on their first day of work,” Sanchez said. (PNA)
