DAVAO CITY – Five workers died and two were injured after an under-construction bridge in Barangay Malamba, Marilog District, collapsed on Monday here.

In a report Tuesday, the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) identified the dead workers as Jimboy Liga, 28, the boom truck operator; Elmer Sayson, 44, a foreman; Rolando Abing, 40, laborer; and masons Jay Bangonan, 22, and Cris Napao, 44.

Those injured were Meljay Bero, 29, a laborer; and Jonathan Dispo, 38, a mason.

“The two injured are now recovering at the Southern Philippines Medical Center,” said Capt. Hazel Tuazon, the DCPO spokesperson.

According to Dario Dispo, 42, a foreman, the 10 workers from Bojus Sun Builders & Supply Corporation were installing the side panel using the boom truck positioned at the center of the bridge when it suddenly collapsed.

The bridge fell into the river from a height of about 60 feet, trapping all seven workers. (PNA)
