30 feared dead, 40 rescued as passenger boat capsizes off Rizal

MANILA – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) on Thursday reported that around 40 passengers have been rescued while around 30 may have died after a passenger boat capsized in Laguna de Bay off Binangonan, Rizal.

In a spot report, PCG Substation Binangonan said MBCA Princess Aya capsized about 50 yards away from Barangay Kalinawan in Binangonan.

The incident occurred at around 1 p.m. when the motorized boat was battered by strong winds that caused passengers to panic and group to its port side, causing it to capsize.

It noted that the number of individuals rescued and casualties are not yet finalized and are still being checked.

Search and rescue operations are ongoing in the area. (PNA)
