CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY – Camiguin province will retain its Quick Response (QR) code system despite the lifting the state of public health emergency against coronavirus disease 2019 (Covid-19).

In a statement Sunday evening, Governor Xavier Jesus Romualdo said the QR code system will be streamlined to the provincial government's digital transformation efforts.

"We have retained our QR system as we retool it for the implementation of Smart Tourism in Camiguin and the issuance of digital Camiguin resident identification document (ID) cards. You can expect to see the changes to the system in the coming weeks," he said.

Former President Rodrigo Duterte issued Proclamation 922 on March 8, 2020, declaring a state of public health emergency after the first Covid-19 transmission was reported by health authorities in the country.

Camiguin utilized QR codes for residents, and both incoming and outgoing visitors and tourists, as a form of contact tracing in case of Covid-19 infection.

On July 21, President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. lifted the proclamation, which prompted Romualdo to issue an order changing the Covid-19 protocols for the island province. (PNA)
