MANILA – The country has recorded a total of 85,692 dengue cases from Jan. 1 to July 22, the Department of Health (DOH) said Wednesday.
The DOH noted that the tally is 19 percent lower than the 106,517 cases reported during the same period in 2022, but dengue cases are increasing since the first week of April.
"[It] is expected because of the rainy season,” the DOH said. “The agency is also continuously monitoring areas that are prone to flooding and were hit by the recent typhoon.”
From June 25 to July 8, the DOH reported 9,916 dengue cases which is 7 percent higher than the cases logged two weeks prior.
For the morbidity weeks of June 25 to July 22, the highest incidence of dengue cases came from Region 4-B (Mimaropa) with 51 cases per 100,000 population.
It is followed by the Cordillera Administrative Region with 34 cases per 100,000 population; the Davao Region with 25 cases per 100,000 population; Zamboanga Peninsula with 24 cases per 100,000 population; and Soccsksargen with 23 cases per 100,000 population.
To keep cases from increasing, the DOH urges the public to observe the 5S Strategy against Dengue: search and destroy mosquito breeding sites; uphold self-protection like using of insect repellents; seek early consultation at the nearest health care facility; support fogging, spraying, and misting in hot spot areas; and sustain hydration.
