MANILA – At least 139 members of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People's Army (CPP-NPA) have surrendered to different police units in the Mimaropa region from January to August 2 this year.

Mimaropa is comprised of the provinces of Oriental and Occidental Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon and Palawan.

In a statement issued on Thursday, Police Regional Office (PRO) 4B chief Brig. Gen. Joel Doria said out of this figure, 20 are listed in the periodic status report (PSR) and the rest are alleged members, supporters, and militiamen.

Doria said the latest surrenderer was "Ka Alyana", 57, a former NPA member in the barrio and a supporter of Jethro Erardo Zapra Jr. alias “Ka Jojo Sapra/Jade/Muriel/Jeter/Bamboo”; KLG MAV (Mark Anthony Velasco) (Former KLG SILANGAN), SRMA-4D (Mindoro Islacom Committee) Southern Tagalog Regional Party Committee (STRPC) operating in the municipalities of Roxas, Mansalay and Bulalacao in Oriental Mindoro and in the towns of Magsaysay, San Jose, Rizal, and Calintaan in Occidental Mindoro.

"Ka Alyana" surrendered to the personnel of the 2nd Provincial Mobile Force Company (PMFC) of the Occidental Mindoro Police Provincial Office (PPO) at 2nd PMFC headquarters in Brgy. Payompon, Mamburao, Occidental Mindoro on Wednesday.

The Mimaropa top police official said “Ka Alyana” is now under the custody and supervision of the 2nd PMFC Occidental Mindoro PPO for custodial debriefing, documentation and assistance in the processing of Enhanced Comprehensive and Local Integration Program (E-CLIP).

Doria commended the relentless efforts of the intelligence unit of Occidental Mindoro PPO in collaboration with the AFP, and other partner agencies in the surrender of “Ka Alyana” and other members of the CPP-NPA.

“I laud the efforts of our personnel and partner units in this endeavor. This only proves the government’s whole-of-nation approach under the NTF-ELCAC is gaining far in its ultimate goal to put an end to decades-long local communist terrorism in the country,” said Doria.

“I hope that this success urges the remaining members of Communist Terrorist Groups to finally surrender and return to the folds of the law to become productive citizens of society,” he added. (PNA)
