BINALONAN, Pangasinan – The Pangasinan Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office reminded the public to avoid swimming in the ocean or river with strong water currents after four people, including three minors, drowned in two separate incidents in the province on Sunday.

In an interview on Monday, Binalonan Police Station investigator S/Sgt. Rommel Sampilo identified the first three victims as Raymund Ramos, 33; his son, Prince Ramos, 12; and his nephew, Jayvie Abanilla, 12; all residents of Barangay Moreno here.

Sampilo said that based on their investigation, Raymund tried to rescue the two minors amid strong current while swimming in Alibeng River.

“Unfortunately, they were dragged down to the deep portion of the river and drowned,” he said.

The mother of Prince called for help and was assisted by personnel of the Bureau of Fire Protection, Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office, and Binalonan police.

Meanwhile, a 13-year-old student drowned at a creek in Barangay Pindangan in East Alcala town.

Based on the report of the Ilocos Police Regional Office, the victim identified as Darren Wendel Arciaga and his classmates went for a swim at the creek.

“The victim jumped to the creek and due to strong water current, the victim drowned,” it stated.

All four bodies were recovered but were pronounced dead on arrival at hospitals. (PNA)
