CITY OF SAN FERNANDO, Pampanga – Almost PHP3.5 million worth of illegal drugs were seized and 163 drug suspects were arrested in Central Luzon as a result of intensified weeklong anti-criminality operations in the region.

In his report on Monday, Brig. Gen. Jose Hidalgo Jr., director of the Police Regional Office-Central Luzon (PRO-3), said 508.75 grams of shabu and 321.70 grams of marijuana with an estimated Dangerous Drugs Board value of PHP3,498,120 were confiscated Aug. 7 to 13.

He said the biggest haul was the PHP1.08-million shabu seized in two operations in Angeles City, Pampanga on Aug. 11.

"These efforts are aimed at ensuring the safety and well-being of the public and providing a secure environment to live, work, and conduct business,” Hidalgo said in a statement.

Aside from illegal drugs, he said the PRO3 has also intensified its campaign against wanted persons, illegal possession of firearms and illegal gambling activities.

Of the 247 arrested fugitives, he said 34 were most wanted persons and 213 others committed various crimes like murder, frustrated murder and rape.

Meanwhile, Hidalgo said three former rebels have surrendered and yielded two firearms while 121 persons were arrested for illegal gambling which led to the confiscation of PHP65,847 in money bets. (PNA)
