DAVAO CITY – At least 10,000 personnel of the local security cluster are set to be deployed for this weekend's major Kadayawan festival events here, an official from the Davao City Police Office (DCPO) said Thursday.

In a press briefing, DCPO head Col. Alberto Lupaz said the security detail on the day of the major festivities will be made up of uniformed personnel from the DCPO, Armed Forces of the Philippines, the city’s security cluster, and force multipliers.

The Indak-Indak sa Kadayawan (August 19) and Pamulak sa Kadayawan (August 20) are expected to draw thousands of spectators in the city and other places.

To accommodate the Indak-indak's new afternoon schedule, adjustments have been made to the security protocols, which will be in effect until the event concludes at night.

“The Kadayawan events will start at 2 p.m. so we are expecting activities in Davao City’s main thoroughfare to last until nighttime,” Lupaz said.

He said they have taken measures to increase their level of alertness, including the doubling of security assets, such as K9 units, to enhance monitoring capabilities during evening.

“All security personnel will be bringing flashlights to observe and patrol better at night. We will still impose the usual guidelines for those who want to join the activities,” he said.

Backpacks, non-transparent water containers, and laser lights will not be allowed within the vicinity of the event venue.

Violators will be asked to surrender their possessions or go home, Lupaz said. (PNA)
