DAVAO CITY – The Davao City Police Office (DCPO) is implementing a citywide gun ban from August 18 to 25 for the 38th Kadayawan Festival celebration.

This came after the Philippine National Police (PNP) approved the request of the Police Regional Office in the Davao Region to suspend all permits to carry firearms outside of residence for eight days within the city from 12:01 a.m. of August 18 to 11:59 p.m. of August 25.

Only PNP members, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) personnel, and other law enforcement agencies (OLEs) performing official duties and in agency-prescribed uniforms will be allowed to carry firearms.

“This is to ensure that the activity will be free from firearm-related incidents for the safety of the community, as well as of the local and foreign tourists,” the memorandum said.

It added that the directive will be implemented in close coordination with the AFP, OLEAs, and local government units.

From August 19-20, the city is set to hold major events such as the Indak-indak sa Kadayawan Festival, Pamulak, and Hudyaka sa Kadayawan which are expected to draw thousands of spectators.

DCPO head Col. Alberto Lupaz, earlier said at least 10,000 personnel of the local security cluster are set to be deployed for this weekend's major Kadayawan events. (PNA)
