TACLOBAN CITY – The Philippine Airlines (PAL) is adding two more flights from Manila to airports in Catarman in Northern Samar and Calbayog City in Samar province starting in September.

PAL Calbayog and Catarman station manager Gregory Paul Yulo announced in an advisory Tuesday that two flights were added in Calbayog and one in Catarman.

Currently, PAL is servicing Calbayog with four flights a week (Monday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday), and Catarman also with four flights a week (Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday).

The additional flights in Calbayog Airport are Tuesdays and Wednesdays starting Sept. 5 while the new flight for Catarman is Thursdays starting Sept. 7.

“This expansion will allow us to experience the beauty of Northern Samar and Samar and its surroundings more frequently,” Yulo said in the statement.

Samar and Northern Samar are both blessed with natural wonders that will amaze tourists once they visit these provinces.

These tourist destinations include the Biri Rock Formation in the island town of Biri, the island town of Capul, the Pink Beach in Sila Island in San Vicente town, all in Northern Samar province; the Calbayog Zipline and Malajog Ridge Nature Park and the Bangon and Tarangban Falls, two of the more than 30 waterfalls in Calbayog City, and the Pinipisakan Falls in San Jorge and Torpedo Boat Extreme Ride in Paranas, all in Samar province, among others.

“This milestone wouldn’t also have been possible without your continued trust and patronage. Thus, we want to express our heartfelt gratitude for flying with Philippine Airlines. Your support has been instrumental in driving us to create more opportunities for you to explore and discover the beauty of Samar,” Yulo added.

Department of Tourism Eastern Visayas Regional Director Karina Rosa Tiopes has welcomed PAL’s announcement, saying “this good news is an indication that these routes are viable.”

Tiopes hopes that airlines will also open more routes connecting Eastern Visayas to other regions of the country.

Currently, airline companies operating in the region offer flights to Ninoy Aquino International Airport and the Mactan-Cebu International Airport. (PNA)
