MANILA – The Olongapo solar power project is expected to intensify further the strategic cooperation between Energy China and AboitizPower Group in promoting the diversification of local power supply modes in the Philippines.

This after a joint venture formed by China Energy Engineering Group Co. Ltd. (CEEC) and Guangdong Electric Power Design Institute signed the engineering, procurement and construction (EPC) contract with AboitizPower Group on Aug. 10 for the Olongapo solar power project.

In a news release on Tuesday, the CEEC said the project will also further reduce the country’s dependence on fossil fuel-derived energy and will boost the sustainable development of local society and economy.

“The signing paved the way for promoting a rolling development of the Philippines' clean energy market and accelerating its green energy transformation,” it said.

The project is located in Olongapo, Zambales or 126 kilometers away from Manila, covering an area of 196 hectares.

The project mainly includes the design, supply, construction, testing and commissioning of a terrestrial photovoltaic power system with a total capacity of about 172 megawatts.

Once completed, the project will be connected to the Castillejos 500-kilovolt (kV) substation, 16 kilometers away through a 230-kV transmission line.

Energy China is one of the world's largest comprehensive solution providers as well as infrastructure investors and contractors for the entire power industry.

AboitizPower Group is the second-largest power developer and one of the leading enterprises in the power industry in the Philippines. (PNA)
