MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) has delivered over 2.27 million physical Philippine identification cards (PhilID) and 1.58 million electronic PhilIDs in the Ilocos Region as of June 30, according to the Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA).

PSA Ilocos Region chief administrative officer Camille Carla Beltran, in a virtual forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency Ilocos on Friday, said that of the total number of physical IDs, 255,444 were delivered in Ilocos Norte, 374,413 in Ilocos Sur, 448,389 in La Union and 1.2 million in Pangasinan.

Beltran said of the total 1.58 million electronic PhilIDs, 307,009 were delivered in Ilocos Norte, 144,053 in Ilocos Sur, 165,406 in La Union, and 968,905 in Pangasinan.

The electronic PhilIDs or e-PhilIDs were printed on paper but have the same functionality and validity as the physical IDs, she said.

“This is an active strategy for the distribution and printing while waiting for physical IDs but it is the same as it could be used for transactions (in need of valid ID),” she added.

Beltran assured those who received the electronic IDs that their physical IDs would soon arrive.

She also urged the public to report establishments or institutions that will reject either the physical or electronic PhilID as a valid ID.

Meanwhile, registration for Step 2 of the Philippine Identification System (PhilSys) in the region has reached over 3 million as of June this year.

Beltran said of the total number, over 464,000 were in Ilocos Norte, 568,000 in Ilocos Sur, 641,000 in La Union, and 2 million in Pangasinan.

Step 2 involves the actual sign-up which includes the validation of demographic information and the capture of fingerprint, iris and face images at PhilSys registration centers. (PNA)
