MALASIQUI, Pangasinan – The Philippine Statistics Authority (PSA) on Friday urged residents of the Ilocos Region to participate in the 2022 Census for Agriculture and Fisheries (CAF) from Sept. 4 to Oct. 23 this year.

PSA Ilocos supervising statistical specialist Teresa Olarte, in a virtual forum hosted by the Philippine Information Agency Ilocos regional office, said the survey aims to collect basic information on agriculture and fisheries in the region.

“The gathered data will be used as a basis or source of the sampling frame for other censuses. Like other surveys, the data generated will be used in the plans and programs of the government down to the local level,” she said.

Olarte said all households in Pangasinan will be surveyed, while samplings will be done in Ilocos Norte, Ilocos Sur and La Union.

The survey, done every 10 years, will ask respondents whether they are operators or involved in agriculture, fishing or aquaculture.

“There will also be interviews with the barangay captain and the councils. The respondents will be asked about facilities in their village when it comes to agriculture and fishery and calamities they encountered,” she said.

Some 1,300 statistical researchers or enumerators will go around the provinces of the region to conduct the survey. They should be in uniform and have proper identification cards.

The last batch of training for the enumerators will end on the last week of August, Olarte said.

“We are promoting 2022 CAF and asking for support and if the statistical researchers from PSA will visit your houses, please cooperate so that we could gather the right information. Be assured that all the information provided will remain confidential and are safe,” she said.

The CAF is mandated under Republic Act 10625 or the Philippine Statistical Act of 2013. (PNA)
