MANILA – Six members of the Philippine National Police-Maritime Group (PNP-MG) in Metro Manila were placed under restrictive custody for allegedly beating up a minor involved in a petty crime in Navotas City.

National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) director Brig. Gen. Jose Melencio Nartatez said Tuesday an investigation is likewise underway against another four police officers involved in the incident.

He added that they are now coordinating with the local officials and the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) in the conduct of the investigation.

“Allegedly, the minor was hurt and this is being investigated already. The minor was turned over by the citizens who apprehended the kid over a street crime,” Nartatez told reporters on the sidelines of the celebration of the 122nd Police Service Anniversary at the NCRPO headquarters in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

He said the coordination was made especially since the parents were reported to have already expressed that they would no longer pursue a case against the policemen.

“We are coordinating with the local government unit, the barangay officials and the DSWD so that we may pursue a case against these six to 10 personnel of the Maritime Group under the NCR stationed in Navotas,” said Nartatez. (PNA)
