MANILA — Over 49,000 displaced workers in Isabela province were provided emergency employment under the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).

In a social media post on Tuesday, DOLE-Isabela chief Evelyn Yango reported that a total of 49,248 Isabelinos were provided temporary jobs to cushion the effects of poverty, disasters, and displacement.

She said the beneficiaries from the province's six districts received PHP220,684,000 in wages for temporary employment for eight months this year.

Among the six districts, she said District 3 received the highest amount in wages at PHP61,357,800 with 13,744 beneficiaries; followed by District 5 in the amount of PHP42,535,500 with 7,891 workers; District 6, PHP40,635,000 with 9,665 beneficiaries; PHP32,623,500 worth of wages for 7,674 workers in District 2 and a some of PHP21,378,000 for 4,979 beneficiaries in District 1.

Yango noted the crucial role of the TUPAD program in providing urgent financial assistance through temporary employment.

“The problems of displacement and the onslaught of disasters have made TUPAD stand out as a ray of hope and relief,” she said.

“Isabelinos have been given the opportunity to find employment and achieve financial stability through strategic partnerships between local government agencies and the DOLE,” she said.

The program also gives the beneficiaries the tools they need to regain their stability and independence through training and employment referrals, and livelihood opportunities, Yango added. (PNA)
